Kimberly Lankford has been a financial journalist for more than 25 years, specializing in translating complex financial topics into understandable terms and providing actionable advice to help people with their personal finances. As the “Ask Kim” columnist for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine and for 22 years, she received hundreds of reader questions every month about insurance, taxes, retirement planning, college saving, health-care costs and other personal finance issues. She has also written financial articles for the Washington Post, Boston Globe, Bloomberg Wealth Manager, and other publications, and her columns appeared regularly in the Chicago Tribune, Denver Post, Baltimore Sun, Deseret News, among other papers.

Lankford is the author of three books: Rescue Your Financial Life (McGraw-Hill, 2003), The Insurance Maze: How You Can Save Money on Insurance — and Still Get the Coverage You Need (Kaplan, 2006), and Ask Kim for Money Smart Solutions (Kaplan, 2007). She also wrote the Financial Field Manual: Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Guide for Military Families, which has been reprinted in three editions and is distributed to servicemembers at military bases throughout the world.

Lankford received the personal finance Best in Business award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for her series of articles about the finances of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2013, and the New York State Society of CPAs Excellence in Financial Journalism award for her Medicare coverage in 2016 and for her articles about financial planning for children with special needs in 2017.

She is frequently featured as a financial expert on podcasts, television and radio, including NBC’s Today Show, CBS This Morning, CNN, CNBC, Fox News, National Public Radio, Marketplace radio, and many local channels.
