Making financial security available to everyone

“Does the world really need another insurance startup?”

That’s what one of my closest friends said to me a year ago when I told him about our idea for Saturday Insurance. And he had a fair point. Over the past few years, dozens of insurance startups had launched and there was even an annual “Insurtech” conference that drew thousands of people. Why should people care about Saturday? Yet, despite all the new entrants, we believed that people still needed help and so, optimistically (or perhaps naively), we got to work.

If you look at the world today, having financial security is more important than ever. People are living longer, jobs are less stable, and many of us are taking care of multiple family generations. And although insurance is a really important part of any financial plan, most people don’t know where to begin.

As a husband and father of three, I’ve lived these challenges. Over the past 10 years, our family has purchased seven different life insurance policies (all term life), an individual disability policy, and a long-term care policy (for my mother). As an actuary with 20 years of insurance experience, I expected buying insurance would come easy to me. It didn’t. With each purchase, we felt like our family was starting from scratch and answering the same questions over and over — What do I need? Can I afford it? Who do I trust?

I was pretty sure that if I had these questions, other people had them as well. And so, Saturday was born.

We built Saturday to give people a better place to shop for the insurance products that matter most. A place that is focused solely on helping people build financial security. A place where the most important insurance products and the best insurers in the country are all together. And a place where people are educated and empowered through access to great tools, and expert help anytime they need it.

All of this was done with a single mission in mind — to make financial security simple and affordable for everyone.

We know that our mission is ambitious and that achieving our goal won’t be easy. But our team is energized by the challenge, and ready for the journey ahead.
